Kimberley Gundle is a South African artist who lives and works in London. Her subject in ‘A slice of London’ is London people. But these are more portraits of character types than individuals. Although she photographs and talks with people she encounters, she calls the works ‘portraits of the psyche’. In the book, Sue Hubbard writes that Kimberley Gundle is ‘above all a colourist’ so our cue was to celebrate that in the design of the book. Each title appears in its own colour-saturated space. The colour system was designed to moderate and empathise, not follow, the work.
